Time is of the Essence…⌛

It’s been said that the older you grow, the faster time passes.  Days become yesterday’s memory and the following day creeps in before us.  An old family friend recently sent old pictures to my Nan in the mail of me when I was maybe four or five.  When I visited my Nan’s today, she shared the pictures and on the back of the picture my Nan had written, “She’s a ham.  She is my everything…” This was in the late eighties and although the picture was a fragment of time caught in the essence of a camera lens, I have continued to grow into an adult and barely remember the memory of the picture being snapped.  However, the sentiment on the back of the picture has carried on with time along with my Nan’s spirits towards her first born granddaughter.

More recently I have come to realize that time and life is brief.  Prior to my cancer diagnosis I was caught in the hustle and bustle, I was a mover and a shaker and barely took a second to stop and relish in the small, intimate and subtle moments that life had to present.  Days came and went and I would shed the day without a pause.

Being a firm believer that our time spent on this earth is to grow, learn, love and observe, I am attempting to take time more seriously; possess each and every moment and inhale the true value of the time I have been blessed with.  Today, I decided to spend the day with my lovely, Nan and we baked the day away.  For anyone who knows me, I am not a domestic goddess, in fact, I am known for being the anti.  However, I wanted to embrace family traditions and experience a little piece of time that my Nan used to spend with her Nan baking traditional English Christmas goodies.  Up to our eyeballs in flour, we prepared the pastry and spent the afternoon making Mince Pies and Sausage Rolls.  With each calling, my Nan explained the directions in layman’s terms, for the non-baker.  By the end of the day, we had successfully created what we had set out to do and they were delicious, to boot.

The most important part of the day was the time well spent, time that went in the blink of an eye, but will forever be a memory in spending it with my Nan.  Now every Holiday Season, I can look back at the first time I baked with my Nan and the laughs we enjoyed in the process.  Time is such a precious gift and I have finally realized to take my time, not to live too fast and the troubles that are here today shall pass.

🎄 Deck the Halls 🎄

Let the Holiday Season commence!  We had a wonderful Thanksgiving, surrounded by lovely family and today decided to brave the elements and partake in some shopping.  This year more than ever, I am excited for the Holidays.  I’m not sure what has changed, I’ve always enjoyed Christmas but there is something different about this year and there is endless amounts of anticipation.  I suppose I have come to appreciate the simpler things in life and the true meaning of the season.

Today, I was able to relish in decorating our condo for the Holidays and enjoyed every second of it.  The Ochoa’s will be getting our Christmas card picture taken on Sunday and we’ll be set to send out well wishes to our loved ones.  So, let the Mariah Carey Christmas album play on repeat, I am ready for the Holidays and Christmas cheer.  Let the Holiday’s begin…

Love,
